What is ethical breeding?

Ethical breeding is a responsible approach prioritizing animal health, welfare, and breed preservation over profit, involving extensive health testing, genetic screening, proper socialization, careful owner matching, and lifelong commitment to the dog's well-being, ensuring a high standard for both parents and puppies. It focuses on improving the breed by selecting healthy, temperamentally sound animals, preventing genetic defects, and reducing the risk of abandonment by matching puppies to suitable forever homes, often through contracts and take-back clauses.

Why Our Puppies Have Natural Tails:
At Little Creek Aussies, we follow ethical breeding practices and modern veterinary recommendations. For this reason, our puppies are born and raised with their natural tails intact. Leaving tails undocked supports healthy development and allows dogs to communicate naturally with both people and other animals. Our dogs and puppies are fully registered, and puppies remain eligible for registration with natural tails.

About the Breed:

The Miniature American Shepherd resembles a small Australian Shepherd. True herders in spite of their compact size, Minis are bright, self-motivated workers and endearingly loyal and lively companion dogs who have an affinity for horses. The Miniature American Shepherd shares many physical traits with its forebear the Australian Shepherd'¿only on a smaller scale. Females stand between 13 and 17 inches at the shoulder; males range from 14 to 18 inches. Despite their size, Minis are every inch a true herding dog: energetic, versatile, rugged, and extremely bright. The eye-catching coat comes in black, blue merle, red, and red merle. (The merle will exhibit in any amount marbling, flecks, or blotches.) Minis move with the smooth and agile step of a dog built for hard work on punishing terrain.

Perspective Owner Questions

If you’re still interested, we’d love to learn more about you.
Prospective families should be comfortable answering the following:

  • Dogs require ongoing veterinary care, including vaccinations, wellness exams, and unexpected medical needs. This question helps ensure our puppies are placed in homes prepared for lifelong care.

  • Having an established veterinarian is an important part of responsible pet ownership and ensures continuity of care from puppyhood through adulthood.

  • We ask this to ensure responsible ownership and to protect the integrity and health of the breed.

*Breeding rights are only granted to approved homes for a small fee.

  • This ensures that none of our dogs ever end up in shelters and allows us to help rehome them safely if circumstances change.

  • Regular visits allow families to bond with their puppy, watch their development, and help create a smoother transition when it’s time to go home.

  • The deposit secures your puppy and reflects a mutual commitment once a match has been made. Deposits help us plan responsibly for each litter.
